Partner Home Program
Partner Homes are a very valued and important part of PreciousGem Miniature American Shepherds! I would not be able to contribute to improving the breed without these loving homes. I offer the best of my dogs to these companion or sport homes so they can enjoy all the love, attention, and training they deserve while also staying an important part of my program’s future. These dogs would stay intact while they help me improve the breed and then spayed/neutered at a later time and remain a loving family member to you! All breed related health testing and reproductive costs are MY responsibility, not yours! I also take the responsibility to raise the litters in my home, but I can be flexible if the Partner Home is interested in raising pups under my mentorship. Every litter the dog has I will be paying the Partner Home $$ as a thank you for being part of the PreciousGem family and future of the breed!
Benefits to the Dog
Because of my amazing Partner Homes, these pups are able to enjoy individual love, training, and attention to their needs! Because of you, they do NOT have to live their lives stuck in a kennel with minimal human interaction just to produce pups. That is NOT how I want my dogs to live! In Partner Homes they live a fulfilling life in the company of their people while still being able to help improve the breed!
Do they do well going back to the breeder's home from time to time?
In my experience - Yes! Because I spent so much time with them as a pup and get to see most of them occasionally to attend shows before having a litter, they are typically very excited to see me and familiar with my home. There can be an initial adjustment (1-2 hours) the first day but then are back to comfortably hanging out and playing with my family and my other dogs! We LOVE seeing our pups again!

Benefits to the Breeder
I wish we could keep every puppy that could be a great addition to our program but it wouldn't be fair to the dogs. I have a very small program and I do not want my dogs stuck in kennels with minimal human or dog interaction or training. Because these dogs are able to stay in my breeding program, I am able to further evaluate my dogs and make better breeding decisions. I have the ability to contribute improvements to the breed better. My goal is to improve my dogs every generation!
What I Ask
-Ideally live within 1 hour drive of West Jordan, Utah but willing to consider further distances!
-Agree to leave the dog intact while helping benefit the breed for a period of time. Males generally stay intact longer than females.
-Agree to feed a high quality diet that I approve of.
-Attend a basic obedience class with your puppy/dog. Crate training will be very helpful for showing and visits with me.
-Provide a safe home with shelter indoors, and agree to continue normal veterinary care for the dog.
-A fenced yard is highly recommended but may make exceptions depending on the situation.
-I highly recommend signing up for pet medical insurance for your dog (Figo, Lemonade, Trupanion, etc) for emergency vet care.
-Consider allowing me to borrow the dog to attend shows. If both parties agree, you are welcome to come along or visit if you so desire but not required!
-I ask that you teach the dog a "stand" command as well as "sit", so they know the difference.

Male vs Female
There are a few differences between male and female dogs in Partner Homes, both of which are very important to me. :)
♀ FEMALE dogs would visit me during the time that they have their "dates" for breeding and then go back home during pregnancy. At least 1 week before she is due, she would come to my home and settle in before her pups arrive. She will need to stay with her pups to care for them at least until they are weaned (5-6 weeks at the earliest). Partner Homes are more than welcome to visit and be involved with the pups as much as is safe!

♂ MALE dogs would need to be available once old enough to come to me for occasional breeding appointments. I would of course let you know when this might happen! This will not be very often but will most often be for my own girls, co-owned girls, or possibly other breeder's girls if they are interested and are approved by me. Depending on how close you are to me, he may be able to stop by for his appointments when the female is ready, or he may need to stay with me for a week or so... then he will be back home again! :)

What if the dog is not fit for breeding?
If I determine that the dog is unfit for breeding, I will then give permission for you to spay or neuter the dog at your expense (as if you would with a companion dog). The dog will continue to live it's life with you and your family as your loved companion as it would have anyway! :)

No Pearl - "Pearl" Pearl was sent to a Partner Home where I could watch her grow up and take her to training classes and compete in some shows. It has really helped me make decisions on how to best improve my program. She knows some awesome tricks and enjoys camping! Thank you to the Dunn Family!! |
